BIO
I am a researcher of Work, Organisation and People at the University of Wolverhampton Business School. Having studied Business and Economics (degree), International Development (Master’s) and International Business (PhD), my diverse research interests are driven by issues and topics relating to business and society that are supported by multi-disciplinary approaches.
Through various internally and externally funded projects, I have been exploring topics around ‘work’ and its impact on individuals and society such as ‘meaning and meaningfulness of work’, ‘equality, diversity and inclusion at work (focusing on gender and disability)’, ‘inclusive digitalisation’ and more recently, ‘AI ethics in work context’. My publication includes not only peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters but also policy reports submitting evidence and offering recommendations based on my research. I am also proactive in review and editorial activities including a currently on-going editing of a collection on meaningful work in creative industries.
I am passionate about research that matters to society, impacting on real life beyond the academic body of knowledge. My research interests are around three key topics:
- Inclusive Digitalisation and AI adoption from Social Sciences and Humanities perspective: As a co-investigator, I have worked on a project regarding inclusive digitalisation for disabled people in manufacturing industry, funded by InterAct, led by ESRC and Made Smarter. I have also published a commissioned policy discussion paper on digital placemaking at the British Academy. More recently, I have published and presented several papers regarding AI ethics, regulations and policy.
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) at workplace: I have worked on various projects investigating EDI issues in diverse industries including screen, care and manufacturing. The issues include gender, disability and life stage (maternity and menopause). I have published a policy report through a project on inclusive growth through a place-based approach in creative industries funded by PEC at the NESTA.
- Meaning of work and meaningful work: I am a Lord Paul Fellow at the University of Wolverhampton, exploring meaningful work in Heritage Craft industry. I am also currently editing a collection on meaningful work in creative industry.
I am passionate about research that matters to society, impacting on real life beyond the academic body of knowledge. For this, I have been promoting diverse research questions and approaches through inter/multi-disciplinary research and being proactive in cross-sectoral engagement. I am an alumnus of the Foundation Future Leaders 2023 cohort by The Foundation Future For Science and Technology, a charity providing a forum through which professionals from universities, industry and the civil service exchange their knowledge on science and innovation-related policy issues. I am also a member of Women in Manufacturing Policy and Research Working Group, led by Institution for Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge, having been working for the annual conferences and reports as well as collectively writing responses to the government evidence inquiries.
Currently supervising PhD projects are:
• Open innovation and firm performance
• Ethnicity and career progression in the UK HE sector
• Artificial Intelligence in public sector decision making
• Emerging market outward FDI in electric vehicle sector
